Eid al Adha in Canada on October 15 2013

The Fiqh Council of North America says in its statement that Muslims in North America including United States, Canada and other parts will celebrate on Oct 15.

“The Fiqh Council of North America celebrates Eid al-Adha a day after the Wuquf of Arafah due to several Sharai’ reasons,” the statement stated.

The council sees Eid al Adha is an event encompassing sacred timing as well as sacred places like Arafat, Mina, Muzdalifah and Makkah as compared to Eid al Fitr which is connected only with the sacred timings.

“Therefore the FCNA follows the movements of Hujjaj and celebrates Eid al-Adha a day after the official Wuquf of Arafah. Hence our final Eid al-Adha date will coincide with the Saudi Eid announcement.”

In United Kingdom, Muslim community is likely to face a split over finalizing the day of Eid. Muslims who follow Saudi moon watching are likely to follow schedule of the kingdom while other Muslims will be depending on local crescent watching.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, the Muslim festival which commemorates the obedience of the prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his son when ordered to by God.
